Located in Mont Albert North, Koonung Secondary College is a co-educational Year 7 to 12 college. Established in 1964, it has a proud history of delivering a challenging and comprehensive curriculum within a secure and disciplined environment.

At Years 7 and 8, students undertake a core curriculum covering the eight key learning areas. At Years 9 and 10, a core program operates, supplemented by elective and enrichment choices. VCE students at Years 11 and 12 have access to a wide range of academic studies from all eight key learning areas, all of which make use of the extensive technology facilities the school provides. Vocational Education and Training (VET) programs also operate. An English as a Second Language program operates and teacher aides assist students from non-English speaking backgrounds. The college encourages and assists overseas fee-paying students. Extensive assistance is also provided for disabled students.

Koonung Secondary College provides a range of opportunities for motivated and talented students. A High Achievers' Program provides enrichment and extension for students in Years 7, 8 and 9. Provision also exists for VCE acceleration and for able Year 12 students to extend themselves by undertaking a university enhancement subject. Extra-curricular activities, such as music, sport, outdoor education, school musical productions, debating and a range of academic competitions complement the more formal academic program.
