Doncaster Secondary College, with an enrolment of 1340 students in 2001, is the largest secondary school in the City of Manningham. The College occupies modern, well-appointed and maintained buildings surrounded by attractive and extensive grounds. Recent additions to College facilities include the Senior School and Careers Centre which comprises a spacious study centre, Careers Room, offices and interview rooms, as well as a fully-equipped fitness centre. The College will shortly embark on a large capital works project to provide more permanent classrooms.

The College caters for a diverse student population. Students come from a wide geographical area: Year 7 students come from over thirty government and non-government primary schools. Approximately 60% of students come from Non-English-Speaking-Backgrounds. Twenty different languages are represented amongst the College community, with Chinese, Greek, Arabic and Farsi/Persian being the largest language groups. Consequently, the College has an extensive ESL program. The latter program also caters for the large number of students attending the College as part of its International Student Program.

The College's guiding principles are to ensure that all students have opportunities for intellectual challenge and academic achievement, for development of appropriate cultural values and for the acquisition of social and physical skills which will prepare them to lead healthy and productive lives. At Doncaster Secondary College, it is expected that all students will:

- strive to achieve high standards of learning;
- develop self-confidence and high self-esteem;
- develop respect for others; and
- achieve personal excellence.

The College is divided into three sub-schools: Junior (Years 7 and 8); Middle (Years 9 and 10); and Senior (Years 11 and 12). Students in each sub-school are managed by a team of staff: a Level Co-ordinator for each year level and a Head of sub-school to oversee the operations of the sub-school. Assistant Co-ordinators lend additional support. A Student Welfare Co-ordinator and a Careers Co-ordinator also support students throughout the College. There is also a full-time College Nurse.
