Hopetoun Secondary College's size (enrolment 140, Years 7 – 12) allows for small, co-operative classes where every student is able to participate, be challenged and gain success. Student achievement in the Victorian Certificate of Education consistently exceeds state benchmarks. Academic success, together with the College's emphasis on developing ‘Life Skills' and responsible citizenship have ensured an enviable record in the placement of students into a variety of University, TAFE, Vocational Training and employment opportunities.
A common curriculum at years 7 & 8 ensures access to the eight designated learning areas, provides a foundation on which to develop basic skills and assists students in making an informed transition into a ‘Middle School' core and elective program. Innovation, together with a flexible and committed staff have allowed the College to provide for student choice – as reflected in the extensive range of curriculum offerings. Curriculum access and student learning are supported by a well-developed welfare structure – including a College Chaplain, Welfare Co-ordinator and staff mentors for students (advocacy program).
The College has introduced the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) and a special workplace program for non-VET year 10 students. Both programs are well supported by the community. The College is a member of the phase 1 Wimmera Mallee Innovations and Excellence Cluster.
Hopetoun Secondary College is determined to maximise educational and personal growth opportunities for each and every student. With the proven commitment and supportiveness of its staff and growing community partnership, the College looks to the future with confidence.
